When is the best time to visit east Africa? Clients often ask this question. The answer is that the best time is when you can enjoy your safari according to your requirements! The two factors that make the popular months to visit is June, July throughout October due to the wildebeest migration.

Rains in East Africa give an opportunity for all forms of life to flourish. Most plants will flower during and just after the rains. Wildebeest calve in February-March and Topi in October-November. Most local birds breed after the rainy seasons. The winter, an extreme weather condition in the Northern hemisphere makes the birds to escape, for example, Eurasian roller, white stork, Eurasian bee-eater, many sand-pipers and plovers, Kestrels and Falcons, Hobby, warblers and Eagles. All Insects including Butterflies, reptiles and amphibians are all out to take advantage of these seasons.

The long and short dry seasons are not favorable to most animals in general, many reptiles and amphibians for example snakes, tortoises and frogs hibernate to save themselves from the adverse weather conditions. This period with its scarcity of water brings about large animal concentrations to available watering points for example in Samburu game reserve by the River Uwaso Nyiro or Galana River in Tsavo National Park just to name a few. Most plants shed their leaves or die and sit in their dormant seed state waiting for it to rain again for example commiphora species.
