The adventure  16 Days desert  Safari in Kenya takes you through Lewa down, Samburu, Chalbi desert, lake turkana, sibiloi national park and onto Maralal.

DAY 1: Nairobi


On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, our representative will meet, greet and transfer to a Nairobi hotel for overnight stay at Nairobi Serena Hotel as you wait for your East African adventure.

DAY 2: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy


Our journey begins with a visit to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy; a 40,000 acre privately owned wildlife sanctuary which was started by David Craig in 1983 as Ngare Sergoi Rhino sanctuary and later changed its name in 1995. The conservancy was established to prevent and protect Black Rhinos from complete extinction due to poaching. On our way, we will pass through Thika and Mwea where we are likely to spot some fresh water birds including African fine foot, African Porchard and Hammerkops which make the largest nests in the world. Also spot the extensive coffee and pineapple plantations frequented by small scale subsistence farms. There are spectacular views as you ascend on the shoulders of Mount Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain and other geographical features. The conservancy boasts of other animals including White Rhinos, grevy’s and burchell's zebras, ostrich, cheetahs, buffaloes and abundant bird life. We will arrive at Lewa Safari Camp in time for lunch before we embark on an afternoon game viewing drive until dusk. Later return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

We will spend a full day at Lewa Safari Camp which is stunningly located within the conservancy with spectacular views of Mt. Kenya to the south and lowlands to the north. Enjoy a morning and afternoon game drives with optional activities including nature walks and Cultural experience.

DAY 4: Samburu Game Reserve

We depart after breakfast to Samburu Game reserve located in the semi arid areas where the land is characterized by rugged terrains dominated by dramatic hills with acacia and Doum palm trees along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Samburu is known for its unique species of animals like the Somali Ostrich, Besia Oryx, Gerenuk, grevy’s zebra, Reticulated Giraffe and Greater Kudu. We will arrive in time for lunch before embarking on an afternoon game drive. The reserve is a good place to watch elephants and the big Cats as well. Return to Samburu Intrepids Club for dinner and overnight stay.

Two days with activities at Samburu Game Reserve

We will spend a wonderful two days at Samburu Intrepids Club, magnificently set along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River. At dawn, we start our game drives around the reserve with packed breakfast together with the visit to the Samburu villages and learn their culture and lifestyle.

DAY 7: Marsabit National Reserve

Today, we will depart after breakfast and drive further North to Marsabit National Park. The park is 1,500 square kilometers of densely forested mountain, Lake Paradise and volcanic crater. This is one of the unspoilt National Parks in Kenya and boasts animals including the African Elephant, Grevy's Zebra, Lion, Buffalo, Bushbuck as well as large heards of greater and lesser kudu. Activities in this area includes game viewing, camel rides and cultural dances by the Rendille and Boran tribes. Samburu and Masai tribes are also in the area as camel grazers.

DAY 8: Marsabit

Have a full day game drives, a possible tour of Lake Paradise, visit the local Rendile community who are passionate about their culture and will entertain you with their traditional dances.

DAY 9: Kalacha. Chalbi desert

After early breakfast, we depart and drive to The Chalbi Desert which is a huge area of around 100,000 sq km of virtually flat sandy desert, to the east of Lake Turkana to Kalacha village which stands at the northern end of the desert, an oasis surrounded by doum palms and inhabited by the fascinating Gabbra people. This community offers you a good opportunity to experience and learn their way of life through dance, homestead as well as visit their schools. Accommodation will be at Kalacha Camp.

DAY 10: Kalacha. Chalbi desert

We will spend full day with activities with the local Gabbra people, experience their dances, homesteads, visits to their schools and watch camels quenching their thirst at a nearby waterhole.

DAY 11: Jade Sea- Loyangaliani

After breakfast we depart and drive to North Horr town of Loyangalani, located on the south Eastern part of Lake Turkana and known by many as the 'place of many trees' arriving to Oasis lodge for late lunch. We will interact with the local people around and learn about their traditions and lifestyle. Have dinner and overnight stay at Oasis Lodge on full board basis.

DAY 12: Jade Sea- Loyangaliani

Have a full day with activities with the local tribes, Turkana and El Molo people. Learn their way of life and traditional customs, visit a local Catholic Church. Another area of uniqueness in this region is Gatab, a small Samburu settlement nestled high up near the southern peak of Mt. Kulal and offers panoramic views of the landscape below. Have dinner and overnight stay at the club.

DAY 13: Sibiloi National Park - Koobi Foora

Today, we will have a full day visit to Sibiloi National Park known as “cradle of mankind” created to protect the sites of its hominid fossil finds. The Koobi Fora museum is situated here and has selection of fossils. The Park boasts a large recorded species of birds. Activities in this area include boat riding and guided nature walks including a visit to the museum. Later, return back to Loyangalani for relaxation and overnight stay.

DAY 14: Mararal

Depart from Loyangaliani to Mararal via South Horr. This is a small hillside surrounded by the Maralal Game Sanctuary and is the main centre for the Samburu people, to whom the area holds great significance. The area has a lively atmosphere. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at a lodge.

DAY 15: Return back to Nairobi

After early breakfast, we will bid farewell to Mararal and start our journey back to Nairobi via Thompson Falls in Nyahururu town arriving late in the evening for overnight stay.

DAY 16: Departure

You will spend this day in Nairobi with optional activities like visiting Nairobi National Museum, Karen Blixen and Giraffe centre. Have a farewell dinner and transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your homebound flight.
