Safari Overview

The Karen Blixen museum is one of a number of very interesting regional museums and archeological and prehistoric sites of the National museums of Kenya, and it continues to be an immensely popular tourist attraction with the same words ‘ I dreamt of Africa’. Located 10km from the city centre, the Museum belongs to a different time period in the history of Kenya. The farm that the Danish author of the famed memoir Out of Africa lived on from 1917 to 1931 is now a museum.

The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi is an amazing place to visit. It started as a rehabilitation project to rescue the Rothschild Giraffe. There were only 120 giraffes left in a ranch in Western Kenya when the Giraffe Center was founded.

The giraffe centre provides you with pellets that you can feed the giraffes by hand with. You can even give take photos while feeding the animals by your mouth and it seems like you are kissing the giraffe.

Bomas of Kenya is a tourist village in Langata, Nairobi. Bomas (homesteads) displays traditional villages belonging to the several Kenyan tribes. It was established by the government in 1971 as a subsidiary company of Kenya Tourist Development Corporation as a tourist attraction. It also wanted to preserve, maintain and promote rich and diverse cultural values of various tribal groups of Kenya.

Detailed Itinerary

Karen Blixen Museum Itinerary

8.00am: Depart from the hotel and drive towards the former home of the famous Karen Blixen; author of “Out of Africa” and one of the most famous colonialists in east Africa.

The house built in 1910 has a red tile roof and mellow wood paneling in the rooms. When Karen Blixen bought the property, it had 6,000 acres of land but only 600 acres were developed for growing coffee; the rest was retained under natural forest.

Much of the original furniture is on display in the house. The original kitchen has been restored, and is now open for viewing. A Dove Stove similar to the one used by Karen Blixen is on display, as are the kitchen utensils. Reconstruction of the coffee factory, along with other old farm machinery is underway.

The aim here is to take an individual back in time, and provide a visual impression of each settler life in Kenya.
