Intrepid Kenya Safari - Laikipia, Samburu, Nakuru, Naivasha & Mara

Trip Adventure Details

Overview

Lying north of the Equator, Samburu National Reserve is mostly known for its rare 5 species not commonly found. The reticulated giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Grevy's Zebra and the Somali Ostrich. The drive to Samburu is highly contrasting. The metropolitan life and landscape from the city of Nairobi changes as give way to views of the agricultural hinterland, rugged semi aridity and plant life unique to Africa.

Eye-catching all through, the views of Kenya's highest mountain (Mt. Kenya) and the rolling ranges of the Aberdares until the first stop at the Equator, nature's stamp of the tropics. Flat land as far to the horizon grace the road trip until the break of the arid north. To say the least, the way to Samburu is highly photogenic and is home to the Samburu people, a Maasai sub tribe ever known as fierce warriors.

The Beautiful and scenic Ol Pejeta Conservancy is nestled between the Aberdare mountain range and the foothills of Mt. Kenya only 15kms from the town of Nanyuki. This is where the safari starts. The quaint and tranquil Ol Pejeta conservancy is made up of 90,000 acres of land and is a sanctuary for the black rhino, elephants, and other wildlife. Sudan, the World's last Northern white rhino found home in this place before his death and the extinction of his species in 2018.

The legendary film 'Born Free' was largely shot in Samburu and very significant scenes of the film 'Out of Africa'. And so was CBS's Survivor 3 a reality-based adventure series, that brought its set to this arid patch of tropical Africa. The Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves

The Intrepid Kenya Safari traverses the parks of the north before circling south to Masai Mara. 1 night at Olpejeta, 2 at Samburu, 1 in Nakuru, 1 in Naivasha and 2 in Masai Mara Safari . The safari promises more in 9 days from arrival is a popular choice by holiday makers in Kenya.  In a private 4x4  safari you are bound to enjoy the park combination and attractions to the utmost.

Lake Nakuru National Park presents visitors with breathtaking panoramas and picturesque horizons, it rivals Amboseli as a beautiful daughter of nature.  Originally protected as a bird sanctuary, this park hosts over 400 bird species, including 5 globally threatened species, and is an important stop on the African-Eurasian Migratory Flyway. This park was also the first national Rhino sanctuary and hosts one of the world’s highest concentrations of the Black Rhinoceros.

Naivasha is the place of fun and life. The safari from Lake Nakuru National Park provides ample time (just 1 hour apart) to enjoy a host of activities our travel party has chosen to end the day with an evening boat ride. From Naivasha to Mara and then back to Nairobi
