Overview
Naivasha is Kenya's most popular weekend getaway for domestic travellers. Did you know that Lara Croft's 'Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life' was shot on location in the mesmerizingly beautiful Hells Gate National Park in Naivasha? And so was King Solomon's Mines, and the inspiration for young Simba in The Lion King (Disney). Naivasha boasts of one of Africa's largest geothermal power plant, the Olkaria III. Set to produce over 280 megawatts, the Olkaria Geothermal field will be world's largest when completed.
Lake Naivasha is the second largest and highest of all Great Rift Valley lakes. It is a fresh water lake and is surrounded by two other smaller lakes, Lake Oloidien and Lake Sonachi. Flamingoes inhabit Oloidien. Lake Naivasha National Park itself is also a diverse bird and animal habitat, with the lake itself supporting animals such as hippo and over 200 species of birds. The lake is also known for fishing though this is subject to restrictions to preserve fish stock. One of the key activities you cannot afford to miss are the enjoyable boat rides and water sports at the lake and two of the most interesting activities is a Hells Gate National Park hike and a walk on Crescent Island, a pristine wilderness with a variety of animals. Oserengoni Game Sanctuary is another place for satisfying 2 hr game drives.
The Joy Adamson Conservation Center at Elsamere is equally good to schedule for a visit. The afternoon 'high tea' is great refresher and is served there. A good place to spend the night too.

Itinerary
Whistling Thorn is a swollen-thorn vachellia native to East Africa. It produces a pair of straight thorns at each node, some of which have large bulbous bases. These swollen thorns are naturally hollow and occupied by any one of several symbiotic ant species. This plant is the signature for this value safari
Whistling Thorn Safari to Kenya, Africa starts with an airport pickup and transfer to your Nairobi hotel on bed and breakfast basis. Your safari guide will be at the hotel at 8.00am to pick your travel party to Naivasha after breakfast.
Day 01: Nairobi - Naivasha
Naivasha is about 100kms from Nairobi. The drive is very scenic and the views incredible as you drive by and into the Great Rift Valley. Our Travel Consultant will discuss activity options for you at Naivasha to make your day most fulfilling and of great value for money. Get prepared for some excitment here and there.
Departure from Nairobi is 08h00 with a brief stop at The Great Rift Valley Viewpoint, arriving at the park gate at 11h00. Game drive enroute. Lunch is served from 12h30. Late afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at selected lodge or camp
Day 02: Naivasha - Masai Mara
We depart from Naivasha early in the morning after breakfast and head to the crown jewel of our safari - Masai Mara National Reserve. Relax after lunch and head for an afternoon game drive in Masai Mara till dusk. Return to lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 03: Masai Mara
Enjoy full day game drives with packed lunches and return to your selected lodge for dinner and overnight
Day 04: Masai Mara - Nairobi
Enjoy an optional pre-breakfast game drive. Return to Nairobi after checking out, arriving early afternoon.
Price Guide
Prices for a holiday are determined by:-
- Cost of accommodation facility desired
- Type of vehicle to use of safari (a safari minivan or a 4x4 jeep/cruiser)
- Travel season i.e. mid (Jan-Mar, June, Nov-Dec 15), low (April & May) or peak season (July to October)
- Festive season (Easter holidays and Dec 16 to January 3)
- No of persons in a travel party. Some costs are shared. Single travellers pay a single supplement way close to the price of two
- Room sharing options. Triples where applicable are cheaper.
